When Jan retires, 30 years of experience in process control and troubleshooting disappears

ELICIT ensures that does not happen

By capturing tacit knowledge from your expert and making it available 24/7 to everyone on the shop floor.

Do you recognize these problems in your factory?

Your expert resolves one malfunction
after another

What others cannot find in 2 hours,
your expert solves in 10 minutes.

Your expert is called at
2:00 AM
The new team leader of shift B calls
because the entire production is at risk of coming to a standstill.
Your expert with 32 years of experience is retiring
The most valuable knowledge is in their head.
How are you going to capture and transfer this?

Why experience
makes the difference

Tools for work instructions digitize explicit knowledge: knowledge that you capture easily and is usable at fixed moments.

Tacit knowledge is more difficult to capture. Knowledge about problem-solving, important cause-and-effect relationships, and unique decision logic that experts acquire through years of experience. For experts, this is difficult to explain or write down because they act largely intuitively. ELICIT captures exactly that knowledge.

Explicit knowledge

Work instructions
Machine settings
Fault charts
Technical specifications
Procedures

Tacit
knowledge

Intuitive expertise
Recognizing deviations
Influence of settings
When to make adjustments
Diagnosis during malfunctions

How do you capture 30 years
of experience?

We have been working for 15 years on modeling the tacit knowledge of experts. We do this for dozens of companies, processes and roles.

Every expert is exceptionally good at one thing: recognizing whether something is going right or wrong, and knowing what needs to happen next. That combination, signal and action, forms a cause-and-effect structure. This structure proved each time to be reducible to a knowledge model with the most essential parameters.

The result of this research is an interview method to extract expert knowledge in a structured way through 5 interviews and convert it into a digital knowledge model.

Transferring tacit knowledge

An ELICIT knowledge model can be used immediately as support on the shop floor or for faster onboarding of new colleagues in complex workplaces. Knowledge models can be made for every process, machine and rol within the factory.
