As a continuous improvement manager, you see where things go wrong. Too much production loss. Too much downtime. And too few sustainable improvements. The problem is rarely a lack of will; the will is there. However, in practice, things are often much more stubborn than you would like. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Extra work<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

On paper, it is clear: something needs to change. But as soon as you engage with the shop floor, resistance arises: “We don’t have time for that right now.”<\/em> “Just put it on the list.”<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Improvement initiatives are often seen as extra work or even something separate from the job, rather than an integral part of it. This is especially true for operators and team leaders who are already operating at full capacity. This is also logical. Busy operators lack both the time and the bird’s-eye view required to oversee bottlenecks in the process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Knowledge stays within the shift. Furthermore, knowledge and insights often remain trapped in silos. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
